Bumpy, but fun ride in the Canadian Rockies

Here is a video of a recent flight we made in the Rockies. We feel so fortunate to be living so near to this natural wonder, and to be able to see it from the air. The video took way too long to make, so this post will be short!

Flying the Rockies: VFR from Lethbridge, Alberta (CYQL) to Creston, B.C. (CAJ3) and return

It all came together nicely for us about 2 weeks ago (Nov 10th). Time, lack of immediate commitments, and even weather!

We hopped in JYMmie, and headed for Creston, BC, about 200 nautical miles (370 km) away.

Crowsnest Pass VFR route

Crowsnest MountainAs we passed the currently unserviceable Pincher Creek Airport, we picked up the VFR route through the mountains. This route essentially follows highway 3 as it winds its way west. Most of the many wind turbines were spinning on the windfarms in the area. Our plan was to fly as far as Sparwood, then head to our turnaround point, Elk Valley, just a few miles further north.
